Snowmobile on the Cabin Creek Trails??

What's that all about? You've probably seen Kongsbergers using the snowmobile on race weekends to set up and take down the course, place trail markers at intersections, and bring supplies out to the feed station. But maybe you've noticed them also on non-race weekends and wondered what's going on.

Kongsberger has a dedicated year-round volunteer trail work crew that has been trained in safely operating the snowmobile (no joy-riding going on here!) and they will take the snowmobile out as needed to ferry equipment to remove down and leaning trees, thus saving the groomer's grooming budget for actual grooming instead of logging, to put up signs along the trails, to bring supplies up to maintain the warming hut on Amabilis [correction: we don't snowmobile supplies to the warming hut; Nick and his crew take care of that when it's needed], and to clear out potential flooding spots along the trail. They generally pull the track sled behind them, both to carry equipment like chain saws, shovels, signs, and tools and to try to mitigate the damage to the grooming that the snowmobile causes until the groomer can come around again.

They do try to minimize the amount of time the snowmobile is on the trail because they recognize that no one loves it. And sure, it's stinky and loud (the snowmobile, I mean, as snowmobiles are, and maybe a couple of the trail guys), but it is in service of the greater good of safety and enjoyment of the Cabin Creek trails for all users.  Now all we need is more snow!
